What is happiness through creativity?

Happiness Through Creativity is a hybrid of coaching and an art lesson, where I work with one or more individuals that want to explore themselves through a creative process.

The first step is to do have conversation together, where we connect, determine your objectives, and the how many sessions you want.

Some examples of objectives:

  • I want to learn how to draw…. (people, animals, cartoons, nature etc)
  • I want to improve my drawing
  • I want to do something new and fun together with my… (child, partner, friend, familymember etc)
  • I want to explore my creativity
  • I want to learn more about myself using creative tools
  • I want to learn how to express myself through creativity

After you have stated your objective(s), we will determine a plan together where I ask the following questions:

  1. What is the ideal outcome of your objective?
  2. When do you want to start?
  3. How much time are you willing to spent on the objective by yourself?
  4. How much time do you want to spent together on the objective?
  5. What materials/techniques do you want to use/explore?

One of the important things in this program is that you will dictate the pace, you determine what to do. You are responsible for your own results! This means spending the time practicing that you have determined for yourself, showing up for the sessions together, keeping your portfolio. Anything is possible!

Vision & Method

Happiness Through Creativity is an initiative I started after I realized that being creative has not only given me a lot of fun but it has helped me grow as a person.  During my studies of Art Therapy, I learned that what people make, how they make it and with what type of materials, says a lot about them. Through our sessions I support you in getting rid of any obstacles that are in the way and to empower you to get started. The intention is that you will find the tools and way to work so you can continue on your own!

Now I have three “rules” for people who tell me that they can’t draw or never will be able to draw:

  1. Anyone can learn how to draw!
    I believe that people can do anything as long as they put their mind to it. I believe in thinking in possibilities rather than obstacles. Now the only things you need to become better at drawing is the desire to draw and the discipline to practice. As you get better you will enjoy it even more!
  1. Be kind to yourself!
    If you go to the gym for the first time or a long time in a while it would be pretty hard to suddenly lift 100 kilos. The same way do you train your hand and brain to improve drawing! Results take time and learning a new skill is a progress. Be patient and you well get results pretty soon. The most important thing here is to view your progress with enthusiasm and to allow yourself to make “mistakes”. Most things you draw are just sketches, doodles, where you are trying out new and different things. This is a phase where it’s necessary to make “mistakes” which can often lead to amazing and surprising results! So be kind to yourself and try to just enjoy the process!
  1. Be objective, not judgmental!
    Judging your work is a killer for your motivation and self esteem! It is the best way to stifle your creativity! This does not mean that you can’t criticize your work, in fact it is necessary if you want to improve. However when you criticize it is important that you try to be objective. Of course you always have a primary reaction to something you made, you like it or you don’t like it. Now it is important that you look at the reason why. When you can answer why you do or do not like something, you have already improved not only your drawing skills but also yourself!
